Biography Chen Mei Wong

On !8 january 1975 my idol Chen Mei Wong was born in HongKong as the daughter of a Chinese father and a Thai mother. Her family belonged to the Asian aristocracy and Chen was raised as a wealthy little Chinese girl. When she was three she got her first violin and soon after that her parents realised they had produced a wonderchild.

By the time Chen was ten she had already played on all the important classic podia around the world. The ultra musical talent was used to travel and play a starring role in concerts, which made her very wise for her young age. A private teacher travelled with her because due to her popularity Chen could never attend a normal school.

When Chen got to be 14 she became refractory and puberal (just like me, haha). She decided to stop following what everybody expected of her. She changed her white blouses for flashy ultramodern creations, made by her Japanese fashionstudent friend. She started using wild make-up and she started composing poppy songs instead of just playing classical music. Then she became my heroine!

Chen Mei Wong keeps on amazing her fans. She now lives already for some years in Singapore, in a villa on Orchard Road. Though she travels a lot, doing concerts. Her (and my) favourite violins are the handmade Ted Brewer violins. In the city of orchids, she got the nickname ‘The Orchid’. But I think she is much punkier and much more beautiful than an orchid!
